WASHINGTON, DC – Catrina Rorke, the Climate Leadership Council’s SVP, policy and research, issued the following statement in response to Representative Ro Khanna’s (D-CA-17) Steel Modernization Act of 2024:
“America’s significant carbon advantage in steel offers clear opportunities for U.S. manufacturers to lead global industrial decarbonization. The more global supply can be met by U.S. steel production, the more global emissions stand to fall. To reach this goal, effective trade measures that reward and incentivize clean production can enhance the competitiveness of U.S. businesses and increase the production of low-carbon, U.S.-made steel. The steel carbon tariff section of Representative Ro Khanna’s Steel Modernization Act of 2024 is an important contribution to the growing exploration of these tools.”
