Experts suggest a website typically “lasts” somewhere between two to five years before it needs updates. Think about it: audiences, priorities, and work streams may expand or change. Best practices in design and accessibility continuously evolve and contribute to enhanced user experiences.
In 2023, the Council took a hard look at our own digital footprint and decided the time had come for a new and improved clcouncil.org.
We set out to complete a several months-long website redesign process with these goals in mind:
- Establish a resource-rich hub that delivers value to our stakeholders and the broader policy community.
- Tell the 2024 story of the Council and bring our more recent workstreams, including trade policy and emissions measurement, to the fore.
- Form follows function. Create a site that prioritizes intuitive navigation and helpful search features – and looks great while doing it!
After many a user survey, mockup, and copy edit, today we’re finally launching the new website! The sections below provide an overview of the changes we made and how you can interact with the Council going forward.
Tour the New Site
Home Page
Aka your Council cheat sheet. The new home page more robustly reflects who we are and what we do. See all our varied work on the most effective, fair and lasting solutions in one place.
Tip: Keep an eye on the red “New From the Council” box to learn more about what’s, well… new from the Council. We’ll link latest statements, reports, event videos, etc. here. You can also scroll to the bottom of the home page (or most any page) to sign up for updates.
About Tab
About allows you to dig in and learn more about the organization and our offerings. New highlights include:
- Our History, where you can read the Council’s origin story, watch a video that outlines our founder’s vision, and see the plans and endorsements from our launch.
- An Events page featuring our upcoming schedule of open events and recaps of past events.
- A new Careers hub that gives job searchers improved insight into our driving principles and what it’s like to work at the Council.
Our Solutions Tab
Jump to America’s Carbon Advantage, Measuring Emissions, Trade, or Carbon Dividends to get up to speed quickly on why we focus our research around these market-based climate policy buckets (and why you should care, too). All our related resources will appear on these pages.
Other Resources
We broke out Publications (reports and blogs) from News (relevant news stories, op-eds, press releases, etc.) and added new filters and search features to each of these pages. As a policy think tank, we produce a high volume of analysis on the biggest climate policy questions du jour. Our hope is that you can now more quickly and easily find exactly what you’re looking for.
You can also still visit the Center for Climate and Trade and several other pages that you’re familiar with from the old site.
The Council’s work is rooted in collaboration. It’s at the core of how we get things done both internally and externally with a diverse set of business, environmental, labor, government, and academic partners. We’re excited about our new digital home and are confident it will serve our community well!
I hope you agree.
