Statement on Nomination of Chris Wright for Secretary of Energy

January 15, 2025

Washington, DC – Climate Leadership Council CEO Greg Bertelsen issued the following statement in response to the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee’s confirmation hearing for Chris Wright to become the next U.S. Secretary of Energy:

“The Council was encouraged by Chris Wright’s thoughtful comments today regarding the opportunities for the United States to continue playing a leading role in accelerating the development of new energy technologies and supporting lower global emissions.

“As an organization focused on pragmatic climate solutions based on sound analysis, we were in particular agreement with Mr. Wright regarding the importance of having good data, securing ‘America’s competitive edge,’ and reversing the trend of offshoring emissions.

“We share Mr. Wright’s view that, because of America’s Carbon Advantage, global emissions stand to fall when more global demand is met by American manufacturers. We know that with the right policy landscape, U.S. firms will continue driving their emissions lower and we will compel others to follow our lead.”
