Washington, DC – Climate Leadership Council CEO Greg Bertelsen issued the following statement in response to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation’s confirmation hearing for Howard Lutnick, nominee to be U.S. Secretary of Commerce:
“The Council was pleased to hear Commerce Secretary nominee Howard Lutnick highlight the importance of critical minerals to American national security and other industries. Securing critical mineral supplies is essential for the U.S. to compete globally in several sectors, including the multi-trillion-dollar market for clean energy technologies.
“Further, the Council appreciated Mr. Lutnick’s acknowledgment that U.S. industry operates with less pollution than our global competitors and his willingness to look at trade policies that would level the playing field for lower emitting U.S. companies.
“We look forward to speaking with the incoming team at the Department of Commerce on how leveraging America’s carbon advantage can support complementary economic, geopolitical, and emissions lowering goals.”
